OurTown High School Leadership Institute...
is a one-week residential leadership institute for high school students
of different races, cultures, and religions. OurTown is a place
where you identify and address prejudices, examine stereotypes,
challenges biases and take steps towards building a respectful,
inclusive and understanding community.
At OurTown you will...
Interact with a diverse group of high school students from across
Kansas. Explore issues of prejudice and discrimination. Share your
life experiences and hear different world perspectives. Learn more
about yourself and how to build an inclusive community. See the
world in a different way.
Where:
OurTown is held at Butler Community College in El Dorado, KS. Students
meet at Diversity Kansas in Wichita. Transportation to and from
Diversity Kansas and BCC is provided.
Cost:
The OurTown High School Leadership Institute tuition is $350 per
participant (financial assistance is available for those in need).
A deposit of $25 is required to reserve your place at OurTown.
You
Can Attend If...
You will be a high school sophomore, junior or senior as of fall
of 2009 who is willing to expand your horizons.
You have an open mind and are emotionally capable of participating
in a program designed to challenge your stereotypes, prejudices
and perspectives.
OurTown is Unique Because...

will breakdown barriers and become friends with a diverse group
of people. You will discuss your life experiences through group
dialogue, situational exercises and activities. OurTown
lets you be yourself.
